Tokon Kai Agenda 2020

Mock Dan Grading Overview

Mock Dan gradings provide invaluable experience for any students due for 1st, 2nd or 3rd Dans within the next year.

Mock gradings are conducted in the same format as an official grading and are under exam conditions.

At the students next training session they will be given their own grading sheet, with scores on for each of the following sections: kihon (basics), kata/application and Kumite.

Students can then evaluate their own strengths and weaknesses and will know specifically what to improve on to hopefully pass their official grading when eligible.

Students must ensure they know exactly what their grading syllabus requires and that they have a pre arranged partner for their pair work and kata application. Partners can either be another student taking the mock grading, or any other Tokon Kai student of an appropriate grade.

Notes:

Please remember students cannot pass their grading, as this is not an officially registered grading date.

Dan Grading Overview

1st Dan Grading

Once students reach 1st kyu (brown double stripe) they must then wait a minimum of 1 year and fully complete their grading attendance card + extra requirements on the card.

When students reach half way through their training - approx 80 lessons, they will be invited to attend a midpoint assessment by the chief instructor.

During this year it is advisable to take a mock grading

Once all the requirements have been met, students eligible to grade will be assessed by Sensei Griffiths. If she agrees the student has achieved a level to attempt their 1st dan grading they will be issued with a letter approx 1 month before the grading date. Dan gradings are by invitation only.

2nd & 3rd Dan Grading

The same structure applies for 2nd-3rd Dans with a minimum training time of 2 years and different requirements on the attendance card. 2nd-3rd Dan's have a minimum training time of 3 years

Notes:

Please remember students cannot pass their grading, as this is not an officially registered grading date.
